Born in the coastal village of Penclawdd, South Wales, and now based in North County Dublin, Dave West has spent decades capturing the essence of Ireland’s landscapes through his evocative paintings. This exhibition brings together a striking collection of his works, reflecting his deep connection to the land and sea.
Renowned for his ‘en plein air’ approach, painting directly from life outdoors, West explores Ireland’s rugged coastline from Wexford to Donegal, translating the ever-changing light and atmosphere into breathtaking works of art. His larger studio pieces draw from these immersive experiences, resulting in paintings that resonate with authenticity and depth.
West has exhibited extensively in Ireland, with 17 solo exhibitions in his name, with the Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Ulster Academy, and Dublin Painting and Sketching Club, among others. His works are held in prestigious collections, including those of Fingal and Wexford County Councils, the Office of Public Works, and corporate institutions such as BP and Bank of Ireland.
Internationally recognized, he maintains strong artistic ties with the UK, exhibiting at esteemed institutions like the Royal West of England Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy, and the Royal Society of British Artists. His accolades include the Gold Mayoral Award at the International Plein Air Festival ‘Art in the Open’ and the Schminke Award at the London Pastel Society Annual Exhibition.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience Dave West’s masterful interpretations of Ireland’s coastal beauty and his enduring passion for painting in the open air.
