Turloughs are unique to Ireland.
The seasonal lakes called turloughs can be found in limestone areas such as the Burren region in County Clare and they are unique among European landscapes.
Their water levels fluctuate during the year. They are dry in summer and wet in winter. Usually, they flood in autumn and start to drain in springtime, turning back into rich farmlands in summer.
Artist Peg Quinlan based this painting on a summer evening walk around Cairn, Co Clare. The west of Ireland gets beautiful intense color sunsets.
The image of the painting was taken with glass on so there is a little of me in the photo. 😊
