‘Oisin’s Promise’

The intention of this watery effect acrylic painting was to bring the Irish 1928, Three Pence Coin to life, while invoking the mystery of the Legend of Oisin.

This famous Celtic Warrior hunted a hare but missed and maimed it. When Oisin followed the trail of blood, he was led into a huge underground banquet hall that was covered in tapestries and fairy lights. In front of him, magically almost, sat a beautiful young woman upon a throne and bleeding from her leg. He knew she was the hare.

It was then that ‘Oisin promised’… never to hunt hare again…
