Here is the history of encaustic painting. Encaustic painting can be traced back to the 4th century when Greek artists used it to embellish their ships. the word encaustic comes “to burn in”. This refers to the process of fusing the beeswax with heat. Stewart as an artist finds this process intriguing, the wax and pigment fuse together and make beautiful images and textures. This allows the medium to form its own shapes as the wax melts and makes its journey on the board. The artist is then able to sculpt the wax as she imagines.
