Anne Stewart’s practice is rooted in the elemental textures of the Irish west coast. Working primarily in encaustic wax painting, she builds luminous surfaces that echo the shifting light of the Burren and the restless Atlantic. Each layer of wax and pigment captures a fleeting moment—sunset glow, coastal mist, or the rugged contours of stone—inviting viewers to step into a landscape that feels both familiar and dreamlike.

Her work extends beyond painting into multidisciplinary explorations: drawing, photography, sound, and installation. This breadth reflects her commitment to immersing audiences in the sensory experience of place. Whether through the tactile depth of wax or the resonance of sound, Stewart’s art embodies the living pulse of the environment.

At Lahinch Art Gallery, her pieces speak to heritage and sustainability. Some works are painted on recycled wood panels, stripped back to monochrome tones, emphasizing the timeless resilience of the land. Others shimmer with color, their translucent layers evoking the fragile beauty of light as it moves across sea and stone.
