Artist Profile

Bairbre Higgins worked in finance for many years before returning to her twin passion of writing and art.

Having studied under renowned Irish Artist, Brian McCarthy (famed for his large-scale portraits and surrealist, politically-themed works),

Bairbre developed her skills in the medium of oil-paint, using both palette and brush to depict the animals and soft landscapes found behind the stone walls of County Clare. Bairbre follows in the footsteps of her mother, Peg Quinlan, Artist-in-residence at Lahinch Art Gallery.
Her first novel, The Torchbearers, published in 2018, was recently awarded the first-runner-up-prize in the Commercial Fiction category of the 2021 Eric Hoffer Book Awards.
