Willie Clancy Music Festival

The 44th Willie Clancy Music Festival is in full swing this weekend in Miltown Malbay Co. Clare

As well as pub sessions visitors can take part in workshops and classes all week. The Festival began in rememberance of the town's best-known Uilleann player Willie Clancy who died in the '70s. The aim of the Summer School or Scoil Samhraidh is to pass on the value of the aural / oral tradition. There is a wide array of instruments involved; Banjo Fiddle Concertina Harp Accordion and Flute and more.

Impromptu sessions follow the organised activities and draw thousands of listeners every year. Nightly Ceili's complement morning classes, albums are launched and Scholarships are awarded.

This year Uilleann Piper Amy Campbell is awarded with The Tommy McCarthy Scholarship for her outstanding standards in the complex art of Uilleann Piping.

The Festival kicked off Friday 2nd of July and runs until Sunday 10th. With Ceolchoirm and Ceilithe all weekend its worth a visit for anyone in the area.

Artist Mary Rourke displays these ambient oil on wood pieces to set the tone of the weekend and below artist Jim Furlong displays stunning sketches that capture the moments had every year in Miltown Malbay.
